I am pleased to announce that Ge-Yao Liu has been appointed Director of the Center for International Programs at HSU, effective January 1, 2017.
Currently serving as the Director of International Programs at the University of Mississippi, Ge-Yao Liu received his BA in English from Guangxi Normal University in China and received his MA in Linguistics with an emphasis in TESOL from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Ge-Yao has 20 years of experience in the field of International Education in higher education, both at 2-year and 4-year institutions, including international student/scholar services, international recruitment, admissions, credential evaluation, study abroad, ESL teaching and program supervising, and international outreach/partnerships. Ge-Yao has also worked, resided, and traveled internationally to many different countries.
Prior to joining the University of Mississippi, Ge-Yao was the Interim Special Assistant to the President for Global Initiatives at Skagit Valley College in the state of Washington. Ge-Yao is fluent in both Chinese (Mandarin and several Cantonese dialects) and Japanese. Having worked with students, faculty and visiting scholars from all over the world, Ge-Yao has a deep understanding and appreciation of international students and scholars who choose to study and research in the United States. Knowing firsthand what these students and scholars experience culturally, emotionally, and academically has enabled him to better connect, serve, and ensure students have a rewarding international educational experience.
