Academic and Career Advising Center's New Staff

The Academic and Career Advising (ACAC) has had some recent staff changes. Please join us in welcoming our new staff members.

Loren Collins has transitioned to a new role on campus as the Faculty Support Coordinator for Service Learning and Career Education. In his new role, he will support faculty in building and facilitating courses with academic internships and service-learning components. Loren is going to continue to do his work with faculty throughout the CAHSS and other colleges integrating career education into courses and remains a contact, along with our new career advisor, for setting up presentations and career components in courses.

Robert Keever, has joined the ACAC team as the CAHSS Career Advisor. Rob comes from Nova Southeastern University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Rob has been a career development practitioner for over 3 years and is a PhD candidate. He hopes to develop research to improve career development practices in the future. Rob understands the need for students to work towards their careers and the challenges in finding the resources to do so and plans to continue to work with students to be able to meet those needs. In addition to these roles, Rob has a professional background in Marriage and Family therapy as a licensed therapist practicing for over 7 years in various contexts. Rob has a broader background in higher education through his event programming experience in student affairs and various teaching positions in the university setting. Kyle Leitzke has joined the ACAC team as the academic advisor for undeclared students. Kyle is returning to Humboldt for his second stint as an Humboldt staff member. He most recently completed his Single Subject Teaching Credential here at . Prior to completing his teaching credential Kyle served students at Humboldt and Sacramento State through coaching. While coaching Kyle completed his Masters of Science in Recreation and Sport Coaching through Ohio University. Kyle received his Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from Sacramento State University. Kyle attributes his professional journey to academic advising as one that is driven by a passion for mentoring and supporting students. Kyle may be reached at 707-826-5223. He is located in GH 125B.

Anna Thaler Petersen has joined the ACAC team as the academic advisor for Biological Sciences students. Anna studied biology at Sarah Lawrence College, pursuing her passionate interest in ornithology through independent projects in all her classes. She graduated in 2002, and then worked for the Redwood Sciences Lab in Arcata for a year, doing mist-netting and bird banding around northern California. She earned her biology teaching credential in 2006, and then taught Integrated Science for three years at Ferndale High School. Anna completed a Master’s Degree in Education in 2011 at Cal Poly Humboldt, focusing her research on the experience of being bullied in childhood, and how that influences adults’ approach to confronting bullying behavior in children. She has worked for the last four years in the School of Education, coordinating the Secondary Education Credential Program. Anna may be reached at 707-826-4169. She is located in Science B320A.
