CusitoLazaro Galarraga

Beginning Orisha & Rumba Song

Intermediate/Advanced Orisha & Rumba Song

Lazaro will teach two song classes. First, he will teach a song class for beginners. This class will introduce students to a variety of Orisha songs sung in the Lucumi language. Lucumi is an Afro-Cuban language with origins from the Yoruba people of present-day Nigeria in West Africa. He will choose songs that are accompanied by the rhythms Bembe and Guiro. He will also teach short, call and response songs for Rumba that non-Spanish speakers can easily learn.

For his second class, he will teach Orisha songs that are unique to the Bata drums and Rumba songs of a more complex nature. In each case he will give equal focus on the lead singing as well as the chorus.

  • Lazarro Gallaraga is a native of Havana, Cuba. He was a founding member of the Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba.
