Oxidation Ponds


The purpose of the oxidation ponds (Figure 1) is to take small organic material that is coming into the pond and incorporate the material into large bacteria cells that settle to the bottom of the pond. Algae, which use the sun's energy, supply most of the oxygen for bacteria to function.
