Vaughn arrived in Humboldt County to attend HSU in 1972. While earning a BS in Natural Resources Mgt., Vaughn studied photography from Tom Knight and Thomas Joshua Cooper. Through the 1980's Vaughn was a workshop assistant with the Friends of Photography and other photo workshop programs. Vaughn is presently giving workshops in Carbon Printing, a photographic process invented in 1864. His work can be seen at the Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite Valley, and at the Arcata Artisans Cooperative Gallery on the Arcata Plaza.
Vaughn worked for the US Forest Service for 12 years, doing a variety of jobs -- counting fish, packing mules, building trails in the wilderness, fighting fires, and the like. In 1991 he became the darkroom technician for the HSU Art Department. He operates and maintains the darkroom facilities to provide the opportunity for the students to be creative and productive, and to assist the faculty.
