SUBJECT: Resolution for Ballot Initiatives Regarding the Instructionally Related Activities (IRA) Fee increase and the proposed Materials, Services and Facilities Fee
1.) WHEREAS, an Associated Students general election is to be held on April 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 2010; and,
2.) WHEREAS, The Associated Students of Humboldt State University believe in the democratic process and the rights of individuals to make decisions about issues that affect their lives; and,
3.) WHEREAS, Three student fee increases (Counseling and Psychological Services Fee, Instructionally Related Activities Fee, and the new Materials, Services, and Facilities Fee) have been proposed to the Student Fee Advisory Committee (SFAC); and,
4.) WHEREAS, SFAC recommended a referendum for all three student fees requests; and,
5.) WHEREAS, only the Counseling and Psychological Services fee has gone through the appropriate measures necessary to be placed on the ballot. Therefore be it
6.) RESOLVED, that the Associated Students of Humboldt State University finds it disappointing that for various reasons, a referendum has not been pursued on the remaining two fee proposals; be it further,
7.) RESOLVED, that the Associated Students on Humboldt State University is concerned with the double standard given by the University Administration that students should vote in California State Elections but should not be able to vote on University issues that affect them; be it further,
8.) RESOLVED, that the following questions be placed on the Student General Election Ballot for the election of April 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 2010 in addition to the Counseling and Psychological Services fee already on the ballot;
1) Should the Instructionally Related Activities (IRA) fee be adjusted from $272/semester adjusted by the Higher Education Price Index (HEPI) to $272/semester adjusted by the HEPI plus 2%?
2) Should a new University wide Materials, Services and Facilities Fee in the amount of $72.00 per semester adjust by the Higher Education Price Index (HEPI) for part-time students and $144.00 per semester adjusted by the HEPI for full time students , in order to fund extra curricular classroom and educational support activities be established?
9.) RESOLVED, the this resolution be sent to, but not limited to, CSU Chancellor, Charles Reed; Humboldt State President, Rollin Richmond; Vice President of Student Affairs, Steven Butler; Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Bob Snyder; Vice President of Administration, Burt Nordstrom; the Student Fee Advisory Committee; and all campus and local news outlets.
