Summary of research
My research goal is to lead a laboratory for the study of bacterial endosymbionts in tick vectors of human and animal diseases. I
will focus first on studying prevalence, tick tissue localization, and host fitness consequences of bacterial endosymbiotic species
in ticks in the Humboldt County. My long-term goal is to study bacterial gene expressions that are essential for maintenance and
survival strategies of the symbionts in ticks by high throughput approaches, such as microarray and proteomic arrays. The overall
research aims to improve detection of tick-borne pathogens and control tick-borne diseases in the future.
