Our botanical collections are the best in the entire CSU system. We are a hub for top-notch botany education and research in the middle of nature.
Where You’ll Learn
Surrounded by a wide range of habitats, from coastal to mountain wilderness, Cal Poly Humboldt is located in the perfect environment for field research. The “natural laboratories” of our diverse ecosystems will inspire you and guide your learning, with many opportunities for hands-on learning throughout your undergraduate career.
Personal Attention
The Botany program is a community. You’ll get to know our faculty, who are dedicated to student excellence and provide authentic research opportunities for undergraduate students. In addition to joining faculty who are researching real-world topics, you’ll find a close-knit learning community of like-minded students and connections to internships and research agencies.
Hands-on Learning
Hands-on work with vascular plants, bryophytes, lichens, fungi, and algae provide fundamental experiential training for students at the organismal level. Cal Poly Humboldt’s equipment and facilities are on par with those of bigger research universities and provide direct access for undergraduate students. Our plant collections are the best in the CSU, and facilities like the Dennis K. Walker Greenhouse and Vascular Plant Herbarium allow students to experiment during their studies.
