Centennial Homecoming & Family Weekend

Date: October 01, 2013

Centennial Homecoming & Family Weekend was one for the books! With so many activities, enthused students, alums and community members, just the energy alone was contagious.

The weekend started off with a Throwback Centennial Homecoming parade, which began on campus and toured around the Arcata Plaza. The parade packed the streets with over 600 participants representing various campus units/groups on campus. Each float trailer was donated by a local business and decorated by energetic student groups.

The parade was followed by an all campus BBQ and Pep Rally to gear up for the big game on Saturday!

Saturday, the day began with our annual Golden Grad Brunch, where over fifteen alums were honored that graduated from HSU fifty or more years ago.

At 3pm, the Homecoming tailgate party began! The parking lot was completely full of a sea of green and gold fans. Delicious food, great conversation and many laughs were shared. For some of our alums, this was the first time back in years so it was an absolute treat to reconnect with old pals and reminisce about the good ole’ days.

The Homecoming football game began shortly after the tailgate festivities at 6pm in Redwood Bowl. Although the Lumberjacks did not take the lead, the evening was still wonderful. Homecoming & Family Weekend ended with a spectacular Centennial Fireworks Show, which had the whole crowd “ooing and awwwwing.”

THANK YOU to everyone who traveled from near and far to join in this special Centennial Homecoming celebration. It was truly a weekend full of memories and great friends. A special thank you to Blue Lake Casino for sponsoring all of the weekends festivities. Another special thanks goes out to our parade sponsors for donating their time and vehicles; JLF Construction, Miller Farms, O&M Industries, Co Op, J&G Landscape, 3 G’s Hay & Grain and McKenney’s Do it Best.
