NAUI SCUBA Diver Course

October 6 - November 16
The NAUI SCUBA Diver Course is a five week program of instruction in the safe use of SCUBA equipment and water skills. The class consists of Saturday classroom lectures at the Alpha Training Group facility in Fairhaven, and Monday night pool sessions at the Arcata Community Pool. The course concludes with an open water dive in Mendocino over a weekend. Students will be required to provide a set of personal dive equipment and wetsuit for the open water portion of the course. Student equipment requirements are discussed in detail during the lecture seminar. All participants must fill out a medical evaluation prior to course. Evaluations are available at the front desk. Hypnosis Workshop - Enhance Your Mind and Heal Yourself

Knots Seminar

Outdoor enthusiasts use an assortment of ropes and knots for outdoor skills. Many of these same knots can be useful for a variety of everyday uses, ranging from camping, climbing, sailing, loading vehicles, and more. This seminar will cover various knots including hitches, bends, loops and other important knots. If you would like to have the mystery taken out of knot tying, this class is for you!

Wine Tasting 101

Ever wonder what swirling wine in the glass was about? What do the “legs” really mean? This two hour class will show you how to understand and appreciate wine. To be held at Libation on the plaza in Arcata. This is the first class of their four class wine appreciation series and can be used for that series.

ACA Instructor Certification Workshop for Whitewater Kayakers

October 17 - 19 & October 25 - 26
Learn to be a fun, safe, and effective whitewater kayak instructor! This course will help aspiring instructors improve their teaching abilities, while adhering to the ACA’s golden standard of excellence. We will explore teaching styles, as well as student learning styles, practice teaching skills and giving presentations both on and off of the water. The course will cover teaching progressions for hard skills and boating concepts. You will also have lots of opportunity to hone your own personal paddling skills and technique. Candidates are tested on teaching ability, technical knowledge, and the ability to perform rescues and maintain safety. Modeling ability, paddling skill, and communication skills will also be assessed. This class is tons of FUN, and a great opportunity for personal paddling and instructional growth. Day and Time: 
Level 1 certification concludes at the end of the first weekend. Levels 2 - 4 must attend both weekends. In general, we will meet every morning at 8:30 AM and participants should expect to be on the water until 5:30 pm. Some times and locations may change during the class depending on conditions.

Notes: 
Participants will travel to the Trinity River for the weekend. You will have the option of camping out on the river, or commuting to class every day. Participants that cannot provide their own gear will be able to rent from Center Activities at a discounted rate.

Eureka Slough Canoe Tour
