CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

February 1
This six-hour course is the highest level of CPR offered and is designed for first responders and health-care professionals to help care for victims in the event of an emergency. The course contents include recognizing an emergency, legal obligations, preventing disease transmission, working with different breathing barriers for resuscitation, and learning how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will receive a certificate in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
Program Fee:

Hypnosis Demystified

February 1
Learn what hypnosis is and why it has the power to influence and accelerate healing. Understand both the psychological and neurological underpinnings that make this therapy so potent and permanent. By dispelling the myths behind its humorous past, participants cut through the illusion of hypnotism and actually get to experience the beauty of the natural and enjoyable trance state.

Isshinryu Karate

February 2 – March 11
Isshinryu Karate is a classical style of Okinawan Karate and an activity providing a strong workout while teaching a practical form of self-defense. Students also learn the basics, kata and sparring techniques. Beginners are welcome, and continuing students can earn rank in this style of karate. Robert Sherman 8th  degree black belt, Eric Lien 6th degree black belt and Nicole Doan 3rd degree black belt are the chief instructors. This class has been taught concurrently at HSU since 1979.

Cooking 101 – Cooking for College Students

February 4
You don’t have to be a celebrity chef to prepare food that is healthy and quick. Learn the basics of nutritious dorm or off-campus cooking. In this workshop, participants will learn how to steam, sauté, bake and boil, spice up meals with a few herbs and spices, and make great meals with just a few ingredients. Includes recipes.

Making Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

February 7
Learn to make chocolate covered strawberries the easy way from a professional Chocolatier. Sandra Nakashima, founder and co-owner of Drakes Glen Creations will show you how to make artisan dipped strawberries. You will learn how to temper real chocolate, then dip strawberries and decorate. You will leave the class with the berries you dip and a deeper understanding of what goes into making chocolates. This is a fun class and no previous chocolate skill is needed.

First Aid and Adult CPR/AED

February 8
This five hour course gives individuals in the work-place the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive. The course contents include how to recognize an emergency, learning how to care for breathing and cardiac emergencies for adults, and how to deal with sudden illnesses, wounds, and injuries to muscles, bones, and joints. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive certification in First Aid and Adult CPR/AED.

Hebrew Reading

February 8 - March 29
This is a six week crash course in learning to read the Hebrew language. This will include the 22 letters of the alphabet their vowels and how to conjugate them together. Additionally this course will include esoteric explanations behind the letters and vowels.

Zumba

February 9—March 11
Zumba is a fitness program that combines Latin music and easy-to -follow dance moves. It is based on the principle that a workout should be FUN AND EASY TO DO. Zumba is not only great for the body, but it is also great for the mind. Zumba routines incorpo- rate interval training, alternating fast and slow rhythm and resistance training. Fans say it’s so popular because it’s a fun way to work out. For more information on Zumba check out the Zumba website.
