HSU Men's Crew
The HSU Men's Crew team provides a unique environment through the sport of rowing that allows male students from Humboldt State to compete competitively in the collegiate rowing conferences on the West Coast. The people on the team get in the best shape of their lives while making lasting binding friendships through the team-building experience rowing provides.
About the Club
The HSU Men’s Crew team was founded in 1975. Since then we have helped bring the rowing world to the North Coast and Humboldt State, and throughout the years we have brought many gold medals home. The most recent was winning the Novice Lightweight 4 at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships in 2010. We race throughout the school year, with 1-2 Head Races in the fall and 5-6 Sprint Races March-April, racing across the West Coast. We work hard and are a competitive team, but we also have a lot of fun. Come check us out! If you aren’t sure if you have the time come out anyways. We often work around our team-members schedules so as many people as possible can participate. The team is currently in a rebuilding stage, we have 14 active members. Our team is focused on building up our leadership and reputation in the west coast rowing community.
We are looking for students interested in athletics who are willing to work hard and be committed to the sport. There are no try-outs to participate, but we are seeking guys who have some sort of athletic background. Girls 150lbs and under can also join to be coxswains for the team! No rowing experience is needed, and if you have rowing experience you’ll get the opportunity to race novice again!
We are also looking for a committed volunteer coach. Recently we have been having older students, who can no longer row but are still in school coach the team. Even though, they tend to do well, it’s hard on the team to have a new coach every year. We are looking to build a strong program that will last, and a committed coach is vital in reaching that goal.
How to Join
Show up to carpool at Library Circle at 5 and tell people you’re there to check out the team.
