The Office of Academic Programs is very pleased to announce the appointment of Edward Nuhfer, Ph.D., as Director of Educational Effectiveness effective August 27, 2012. Dr. Nuhfer is currently Director of Faculty Development and Professor of Geoscience/ESRM at CSU Channel Islands. In addition, he has served as the Assessment Officer for CSU Channel Islands. Before arriving CSU-CI, he directed teaching and learning effectiveness efforts at both Idaho State University and the University of Colorado at Denver. He earned his Ph.D. in Geology at Stanford University and his M.S. and B.S. in Geology at West Virginia University.
Dr. Nuhfer is nationally recognized for his expertise in student learning assessment and educator development as a result of his innovative research, his activities in the Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education, and his service as a consultant to a range of educational institutions. Moreover, he played a pivotal role in the recent overhaul of CSU-CI’s General Education program.
As HSU’s first Director of Educational Effectiveness, Dr. Nuhfer will lead the university’s efforts to assess, document, and improve student learning. With a strong track record of supporting faculty success in the classroom as well as student success, he will be active in helping to further develop approaches that invigorate campus learning environments.
We would like to thank search committee members Eileen Cashman, Noah Zerbe, Lanaya Gaberel, and committee chair Scott Paynton for their hard work, which extended into summer. Also, a special thank-you goes out to all of the faculty, staff, and administrators who participated in the open forums and provided feedback to the committee.
