Child Development Grad Awarded in Economic Fuel Competition

Recent child development graduate, Alicia Chivington was one of the big winners in the annual Economic Fuel competition. She won $25,000 to start a preschool program, Little Redwoods, in the Garberville/Redway area. Little Redwoods will be both a preschool and childcare program in that will provide a service that will greatly benefit the Southern Humboldt community. They will offer quality childcare to working families and create an educational atmosphere which will prepare children to enter kindergarten.

Economic Fuel is a business plan competition for students from College of the Redwoods, Humboldt State University, and recent college graduates who reside in Humboldt County. They provide resources and support to inspire Humboldt County’s student entrepreneurs to make their business dreams a reality. The annual competition officially launches each Fall and culminates in the Spring, and this year offered $117,000 in seed capital, awarded to eight winning teams.
