Equipment Available for Checkout

The following equipment may be checked out from Cal Poly Humboldt's CDRC, when available, on a semester-by-semester basis:

  • Assistive listening devices (ALD's)
  • Audio recorders
  • LiveScribe Pens
  • iPad Bundles
  • High-powered wireless microphones for those requiring real-time captioning (CART) or Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) services

Equipment Checkout, Charges and Appeal Process

CDRC makes every effort to offer Assistive Technology equipment to students who both qualify for, and may benefit from, its use.

The process for receiving equipment begins with the initial intake with a CDRC Accessibility Advisor, who may then recommend an "Assistive Technology" assessment or specific equipment.  If equipment is identified as a reasonable accommodation, a student may elect to "check out" equipment available from the Humboldt on a first come, first served basis. 

Should a student check out equipment, an Equipment Agreement form will be signed upon receipt of the specific equipment.  This Agreement establishes use expectations that includes the return of equipment in good working order by an established deadline.  Failure to return the equipment by the established deadline results in Humboldt billing the student account for the stated replacement value of equipment costs plus any applicable administrative charges.

A student may appeal the charges to the account within thirty (30) calendar days should they be able to show extenuating circumstances that prevented the timely return of the equipment AND be able to produce the equipment in good condition and working order.

Appeals must be submitted in writing by the student via official Humboldt email to Cris Koczera, Associate Vice President of Campus Resilience & Response.  Appeals must indicate the reason for the appeal and the circumstance(s) that prevented its timely return.  The University encourages the student to attach documentation of the extenuating circumstance (for example, a hospital statement or funeral notice). Further information may be requested if necessary to make a determination regarding the appeal.

Students may direct questions about the equipment appeal to one of the CDRC Accessibility Advisors or to AVP Koczera.  Should a student require assistance in this process, the student may request it from their CDRC Accessibility Advisor.
