About the Director

Erick Eschker

Erick Eschker has been Director of the Humboldt Economic Index since 2003.  He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California , Davis.  He joined the Economics Department at Cal Poly Humboldt in 1998 and served as Chair of the Department 2003-2004 and 2006-2010.   In spring 2004 Professor Eschker was awarded a Cal Poly Humboldt President McCrone Promising Faculty Scholars Award.  He spent a sabbatical at the Center for Population Economics at the University of Chicago and spent a year as a research economist at the American Medical Association.  He has published in journals such as Applied Economics and Public Budgeting and Finance and has given papers at the Western Economic Association Annual Meetings and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.  Dr. Eschker has given dozens of public lectures and media interviews regarding the local economy.  His regional economic research includes real estate, the local gasoline market, and rural entrepreneurship.  He recently visited Plymouth State Univeristy to help create a similar Index for rural New Hampshire.
