Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program

jeffrey navarroJeffrey S. Navarro graduated from the Environmental Resources Engineering program at Humboldt in December 2014 and tragically died in a car accident a month later. We at ERE miss him dearly. Jeff’s family, Rene Navarro and Peggy Bryer, has created another way for us to continue to remember Jeff through the Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program, which supports 2-3 ERE students per year to serve as mentors to their peers. Jeff was a kind and gentle person who made it easy for folks to be around him, always ready to help and dedicated to finishing his ERE degree.

With this mentorship program, the memory of Jeffrey S. Navarro will help more students obtain their bachelors degree in Environmental Resources Engineering. If you're interested in helping us to continue Jeffrey's legacy of altruism, you can make a contribution to the Jeffrey S. Navarro Mentorship Program Fund here.

Navarro Donor Profile
Forever Humboldt published a Donor Profile on their website, giving a thoughtful picture of Jeff's hardworking and generous spirit as well as a summary of the program. Check it out for more information and some quotes from our founding Navarro mentors, Jax Gill and Jason McMack.

Bio: Hi, my name is Lucille, I'm an engineering major with a focus in energy systems and a minor in scientific diving. I began at Cal Poly Humboldt about one year after high school and am anticipating graduating in Fall of 2024. Currently, I work at the Schatz Energy Research Center as an intern on the offshore wind project, where I help with computer modeling and simulating. Mathematics and programming are some of my favorite subjects and I’m especially interested in the field of solar energy. In my free time, I like to go backpacking, freediving, or to paint. Being part of the Navarro mentorship program is a great privilege and I’m looking forward to learning a lot this year.

Roland Carter

E-mail: rcc55@humboldt.edu

Bio: Hi Everyone! My name is Roland Carter and I am going into my second year in the ERE program. This is my fifth year of collegiate studies overall, having spent my first three at a CC near Santa Cruz. I grew up in Humboldt County and love sharing this area with new people. My passion lies in problem solving and making positive impacts on people and places. The ERE program has been the perfect place for me to do that and I look forward to continuing as a Navarro Mentor. Outside of my studies I enjoy any outdoor activity, such as: climbing, cycling, disc golf, fishing, etc. I also enjoy spending time inside cooking and playing video games. If you see me on campus don't hesitate to say hello, engaging in the School of Engineering community is one of my favorite things to do here at Cal Poly Humboldt.
