Fostering an understanding of environmental problems and applying practical solutions is at the heart of this major. A multi-disciplinary approach teaches understanding of the interactions between the biological and physical world, human institutions, and human behavior.
In the Environmental Science major you will:
- learn to understand essential biological and physical processes
- understand how to analyze human and environmental interactions
- build critical thinking skills as a basis for natural resources decision making
- gain specialized analytical skills in at least one aspect of environmental science
Students also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-world issues such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and encouraging environmentally sound practices on campus and in the community. Many students in the major participate with the Campus Center for Appropriate Technology (CCAT) and the Green Campus program.
