Graduate Application Instructions

Application Deadlines:

For Fall semester admission: ALL application materials must be received by 01 Feb.

For Spring semester admission: ALL application materials must be received by 30 Sept.

The priority application period for Graduate programs is October 1 through February 1.  Completed applications, with all materials received in the Admissions office by February 1, will get priority consideration by the graduate program.  Applications for which required materials arrive at the Admissions office after February 1 will subsequently be considered in the order received. Please check the graduate program websites for application requirements.

Please send all required application materials directly to the Office of Admissions by email to or by postal; mail to Office of Admissions, 1 Harpst Street Arcata, CA 95521.

Personal Message to Prospective NR MS Students - IN CONCLUSION

1. Apply online through CSU Mentor and submit names and email addresses of three recommenders.  Letters will be returned to Admissions electronically and included in your application.

2. Arrange to have all original college level transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions at HSU.

3. Email current resume and separate signed Statement of Purpose (apart from what you included in your online application) to ( or send by mail to Humboldt State University, CNRS, 1 Harpst Street, Arcata, CA 95521-8299.   The statement should (a) identify the option to which you are applying; (b) express your reasons for pursuing a MS degree; and (c) identify potential research areas that are of interest to you.

4. Once the application deadline closes, your file will be submitted to the faculty review committee.  This process can take from 3-6 weeks, so please be patient.
