Banned Book Reading and Potluck

Library Fishbowl
Do you know what "The Hunger Games" and "James and the Giant Peach" have in common? They have both been banned somewhere in this country.

Freedom to Read: Banned Books Reading Open Mic & Potluck is an opportunity for the campus and local community share excerpts from their favorite banned books. Individuals interested in reading from their favorite banned or censored books can sign-up at the event.

For a list of banned books, check out the HSU Library’s Banned Book Page at

Part of the 15th Annual Campus Dialogue on Race, Oct. 29-Nov. 9.

Compassion for Yourself

HSU Campus
Self-compassion means to fully be with yourself in a deeply aware and non-judging way as a loyal and trustworthy friend. Self-compassion further opens the door for healing from trauma. There is no fixed timeline or correct way of healing; we are all unique individuals with our own practices and processes for healing at different levels and lengths of time. Join us for a spiritual and engaging workshop focused on harvesting self-compassion through meditation, art, and writing.

Part of the Consent Project.

Hai-Ting Chinn, mezzo-soprano

Fulkerson Recital Hall
Graduate of Arcata High, international mezzo soprano Hai-Ting Chinn comes home for a Halloween recital of “spooky songs” from the classical repertoire about witches, ghosts, “and a whole set about the moon!” Elisabeth Harrington joins her for Rossini’s “cat duet.” “Chinn has it all: breathtaking beauty, poise, and a voice of pure gold,” wrote David Cote in Timeout New York.
