HSU Native Sashes Exhibit

Time: All day-Saturday, October 12th

Humboldt State University’s Goudi’ni Native American Arts Gallery welcomes you to join us Thursday, September 26th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at an opening reception for our HSU Native Sashes exhibition. This exhibition displays graduation sashes worn by Native American alumni during their HSU Commencement ceremonies.

In celebration of the Humboldt State University Centennial, the Goudi’ni Gallery is proud to recognize the sashes presented to Native American HSU graduates since 1997. Created by students, staff and local community members, the sashes honor the students and highlight their academic achievements and participation in clubs and programs such as ITEPP, the PowWow committee, the American Indian Alliance (AIA), and the Indian Natural Resources Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP).

The Goudi’ni Native American Arts Gallery is the only public art gallery within the California State University system solely devoted to the work of contemporary and traditional Native American artists. Wiyot tribal leaders selected the name Goudi’ni Gallery, to reflect the gallery’s mission of preserving and promoting indigenous culture through the sharing of traditional contemporary Native American art.

The HSU Native Sashes exhibition runs from September 26-October 12 and is available to view during the gallery’s hours: Monday-Wednesday 12-5 p.m., Thursday 12-7 p.m., Friday 12-5 p.m., and Saturday 10-2 p.m. The Goudi’ni Native American Arts Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Behavioral and Social Sciences, near 17th and Union Streets. For more information please contact the gallery office at 707-826-5814.
