Golden States of Grace Book Signing and Reception

First Street Gallery
Humboldt State University's First Street Gallery presents a reception and book signing for "Golden States of Grace: Prayers of the Disinherited," a photo documentary exhibit by Rick Nahmias. This acclaimed traveling exhibition of black and white photography aims to give image and voice to nearly a dozen virtually invisible communities on California's religious landscape.

Join us for an artist's reception and book signing 6 to 9 p.m. at the First Street Gallery. Golden States of Grace runs February 1st through March 3rd.
7:30 pm

Gist Hall Theater
Is the 21st century a classic farce? Or just high fashion high school?

HSU Theatre, Film & Dance presents the West Coast premiere of Hater, Samuel Buggeln’s 21st century translation of Moliere’s comedy The Misanthrope, directed by Michael Fields. Featuring Charlie Heinberg as Alex, the compulsive truth-teller who helplessly offends people, and Johani Guerrero as Celine, the beautiful flirt and acid-tongued gossip that Alex can’t do without.
8:00 pm

Symphonic Band & Jazz Orchestra

Fulkerson Recital Hall
HSU Symphonic Band follows Handel in the Strand with some Strange Humors, and the Jazz Orchestra takes Seven Steps to Heaven in their shared concert.

The Band (conducted by Paul Cummings) plays works by Percy Grainger, Michael Colgrass and others, including “Strange Humors” by John Mackey that features student Neil Bost playing the West African drum, the djembe. Jazz Orchestra (directed by Dan Aldag) features a vocal by Jo Kuzelka, and solos by Nev Mattinson, Josh Foster, Nick Durant, Dan Fair, Alex Espe, Steven Workman and McKenna Smith.
