Campus Memorial for Jessica Garcia

Redwood/Sunset Hill Courtyard
Jessica Garcia, an 18-year-old freshman at Humboldt State University, will be remembered at a community memorial service on Wednesday, April 10 at 6 p.m. in the Redwood/Sunset Hill Courtyard. The memorial will take place in the Redwood Lounge in case of rain.

Garcia died on March 30 shorty after collapsing on campus. Garcia had been jogging with a friend in Redwood Bowl, and then collapsed while sitting in the bleachers. Her friend, other students and HSU coaches nearby attempted to aid her, as did campus police who arrived within minutes. Garcia was transported to Mad River Community Hospital but could not be revived.

The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office determined that Garcia’s death was due to natural causes.
Garcia was a freshmen from Reseda, Calif. She was living in the residence halls on campus.

Planned memorial services include a candlelight ceremony. Guests will have opportunities to sign a memorial book.

A memory book will be available at the memorial services for students to share memories with Garcia’s family. Services will also include a candlelight ceremony with an opportunity for students and others to share memories of Garcia.
