V-Day Eureka: "A Memory A Monologue A Rant A Prayer" 2013

Native American Forum
This February marks the 15th anniversary of V-Day, the global activist movement to end violence against women and girls.

On April 27th 8 p.m. at the Native Forum at HSU, and April 28th at 2 p.m. at the Eureka Woman’s Club there will be a V-Day benefit production of "A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and A Prayer" directed by Vanessa Pike-Vrtiak and Savannah Edwards.

MMRP is a groundbreaking collection of monologues by world-renowned authors and playwrights, edited by Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle. This uplifting event features a cast of fierce women and men who will break down the fourth wall and explore raw emotion with the audience. Spend an evening filled with storytelling and music that will touch your heart and remind you of the importance of awareness and action.

This V-Day production at the Native Forum and the Eureka Woman’s Club will benefit Six Rivers Planned Parenthood’s Spare Change and Paso A Paso. Six Rivers Planned Parenthood’s Spare Change is a program where teens teach their peers about the realities and responsibilities that come with their developing sexuality, including healthy relationships.

Paso A Paso is a Eureka-based program serving Latino families through prenatal education, breastfeeding classes and support, and parenting classes at St. Joseph’s Hospital. The program has been growing in all areas and has expanded outreach to the Eel River Valley. Classes are now offered at Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna.

Presale tickets will be available at Wildberries and the Works April 1st.

Performances by: Matt Lutwen, Sergio Coelho, Klark Swan, Vanessa Pike-Vrtiak, Savannah Edwards, Jennifer Bravo, Megan Davis, Sofia Pereira, Christin Hunter and Raven Oliver.

This will be the first performance in Humboldt County of "A Memory A Monologue A Rant A Prayer.” The play is unique from the Vagina Monologues, because men’s voices are incorporated throughout the production. “When we started V-Day 14 years ago, we had the outrageous idea that we could end violence against women,” said Ensler. “Now, we are both stunned and thrilled to see that this global action is truly escalating and gaining force, with union workers, parliament members, celebrities, and women of all backgrounds coming forward to join the campaign. When we come together to demand an end to violence against women and girls it will be a truly global voice that will rise up.”
