A testament to the power of perseverance, Brooklyn-based singer Charles Bradley is a commanding soul artist who gives new meaning to the phrase “the voice of experience.” Inspired by seeing James Brown live at the Apollo in the 1960s, Bradley spent the next 48 years stoking the flame of his unfulfilled music career. Emerging from obscurity only recently, Bradley received rave reviews for his striking debut album No Time for Dreaming (Daptone Records), which was one of Rolling Stone’s Top Albums of 2011. His high-voltage performances combine James Brown moves with a tight backing band to highlight his greatest asset—“a voice expressive enough to wow the most demanding soul music fans” (Hollywood Reporter).
