String bassist Millie Martin, currently based in San Francisco, teaches bass in the HSU Music department. Her classical music credits include appearances at the Berkeley Early Music Festival, National Gallery of Art Chamber Series and the Kennedy Center in Washington.

Humboldt Symphony performs a jazz-inflected work from the 1920s: “The Creation of the World” by Darius Milaud, plus the first overture to a western opera by Monteverdi, a Rimsky-Korsakoff orchestral masterwork, Percy Grainger’s “Molly on the Shore” and a student fiddle ensemble. Paul Cummings, conductor.

HSU University Singers perform Vivaldi’s “Beatus Vir” and excerpts from Leonard Bernstein’s Mass, and community-based Humboldt Chorale sings the Mass of the Children. U. Singers directed by Harley Muilenburg, Chorale by Carol Ryder, with children’s choir prepared by James Gadd. Soloists include Katharine Gunnick (pictured), Carl McGahan and Ana Duchi.
