The HSU Madrigal Singers perform a cultural rainbow of choral music from Russian, Hawaiian, Yiddish and Native American sources, while the Mad River Transit jazz singers do colorful tunes from “Orange Colored Sky” to “Sweet Georgia Brown” in their combined concert. Rachel Samet directs.

Humboldt State Calypso Band ends its 30th anniversary year celebration in the place where the band began—Fulkerson Recital Hall—with a concert featuring a guest artist, the steel pan legend Andy Narell. It’s a “student and community appreciation” concert so tickets are priced low for a Calypso Band show--and free to HSU students with ID. Eugene Novotny is founder and director.

An orchestral suite from the opera “Carmen,” favorites by Rachmaninoff and Copland, and a tribute to Louis Armstrong highlight two combined concerts by the Humboldt Symphony and the ArMack Orchestra of Arcata and McKinleyville high schools, in a home-and-home series on Friday evening May 6 at 8 p.m. in Fulkerson Hall and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building theatre at Arcata High School. Paul Cummings and Cassandra Moulton directors.
