Introduction to Herbs

With Ana Molina Trejo

Learn various ways of healing with medicinal plants. Taste, see, smell and learn about some of the most commonly used herbs and how to incorporate them into daily life for overall health and well-being. Learn various methods, tips and techniques to make herbal preparations with samples to go home.

Green Building

With Ciera Townsley-McCormick & Kelsey Summers

Discover new alternatives to sustainable residential design. Learn to adopt natural patterns of lifestyle that aren't commonly practiced in contemporary society.

You will build with at least three natural materials (cob, slip-wool, and papercrete), gain a working knowledge of what constitutes Net Zero Energy housing, and explore how to build it.

Organic Gardening

With Ryan Sendejas & Karl Peterson

Learn how to plan, plant and harvest an organic garden of your own. Once you acquire the basic skills, growing your own food is one of the most empowering things you can do to save money, eat healthy, create community and live sustainably. 


Urban Homesteading

With Meka Hunt & Alfonso Herrera

Explore various components of an urban homesteading system. This class will provide a hands-on approach in which students will have the opportunity to hone, develop, and share skills that they already have or are interested in learning, and be exposed to new skills that will be shared by other students.


About CCAT:

The Campus Center for Appropriate Technology (CCAT) is a live-in laboratory for sustainability that is developed and staffed by HSU students. CCAT seeks to be an information resource center on appropriate technology and sustainable living accessible to people across the world. CCAT embraces its unique pedagogy of experimental learning and community-based knowledge and offers tours, workshops, and opportunities for hands-on involvement in its demonstration home.
