MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Managing People: Increasing Motivation & Performance

Best Practices in Management

INSTRUCTOR: Janet Ruprecht is the founder of the leadership and team training company, Actions Speak Louder. She provides workshops in professional and personal development including managing people, time management and prioritization, communication, facilitation, and team building.

Managing People: Increasing Motivation & Performance

Learn collaborative methods to unleash motivation, overcome frustration, improve communication, and increase performance. These workshops will help you increase your own effectiveness and coach others to success. They are valuable for experienced managers as well as new team leaders.

Tough Conversations: Coaching for Change

This workshop will help managers hold the tough conversations necessary when change is required.  First, it is useful to understand individual and institutional responses to change, identify these, and have a strategy for overcoming resistance.  This course is based on human nature, and we will call upon neuroscience, modern organizational theories for managing change, and ancient Chinese wisdom.  Next, we will practice a process that makes these conversations effective.  These tools are useful in any coaching situation, regardless of whether the change required is perceived as negative or positive.  Good coaching makes a big difference.

Facilitating Teams: Solving Problems Together

This workshop covers the nuts and bolts of facilitation, whether you are holding a meeting with your own team, your colleagues, or customers and vendors.  The premise is that a good meeting yields results.  This is an essential skill for leading teams or project groups.  Taught in the context of helping your team solve problems together, it provides an understanding of team dynamics and practice with analytical tools that any team can use to make good decisions.  And persuade upper management to implement them.

Advanced Facilitation

This workshop begins where a standard meeting class leaves off.  We analyze the high cost of wasting time, choose amongst several ways to encourage participation and discourage disruptions, and practice problem-solving methods.  We will examine a more efficient and productive method of brainstorming that helps fail bad ideas faster and choose good solutions that can be implemented smoothly.  This workshop will be useful for anyone who leads meetings or has suffered through badly led ones.

Best Practices in Management

These workshops are designed for experienced managers who want to learn more about current best management practices and to exchange ideas with their peers in vigorous discussions. New supervisors can also benefit. Each class will address an important topic, with an overview of important books and articles, sharing of experience and opinions, some practice, and a chance to plan to implement best practices in the workplace. Reading the books and articles is optional.

For truly effective leaders, emotional intelligence (EQ) is twice as important as IQ, technical skills, and cognitive skills. Learn the five components of emotional intelligence and why good guys finish first. Discover the driving importance of the leader’s emotional behavior on the performance of the organization. Learn to increase the performance of teams. This workshop is inspired by Daniel Goleman’s work on leadership and the biology, psychology, and neuroscience of emotional intelligence. We will practice developing EQ. Reading is optional; however, articles will be provided and an overview presented and discussed in class. You can receive them ahead by e-mailing the instructor at janet.ruprecht@gmail.com. All you need to bring to class is a pen, your experience, and your opinions.
