Works by Rhianna Gallagher and Jordan Joel
This is a collaborative project where the artists worked together over the course of a week. The paper was made by hand painting emulsion onto printmaking paper. Together we came up with ideas, made the photographs and then printed them. We would shoot during the day and print at night and also do a lot of talking and brainstorming about the project. The themes we decided on investigating have to do with a shared interest in the time based and traditional arts, as well as an interest in photography as a performance art. The work explores ideas of sexuality, polarity, gender ambiguity and connectedness to nature. It is informed by both artists interest in magical realism, staged portraiture and the ability of a photograph to tell a story. It is also a tribute to a friendship of fourteen years and the an exploration of collaboration and process.
