Scholarship Opportunities

The 2018-2019 Ron Hoover Memorial Scholarship, James T. Brown Forestry Scholarship and the Charles G and Helen W. Schober Memorial Scholarship application packets are now available: 2018- 2019 Scholarship Applications. The application deadline for department scholarships is Friday, March 2, by 5:00 PM in the department office, FR 205.

All other department scholarships are now available online through the HSU Financial Aid Office. These scholarships are available through Humboldt State University’s online scholarship application, click on the Scholarships link on the home page of your myHumboldt portal to start the application. Applications must be submitted by March 2nd, 2018.

In addition to the department scholarships, there are also many other scholarship opportunities for Forestry and Wildland Resources students. Here is a list of some of the scholarship opportunities currently available:

North Coast Chapter of California Women in Timber Scholarship
The North Coast Chapter of California Women in Timber is offering several Scholarships to students who are pursuing a career in the Forest Products Industry OR have immediate family involved in the Forest Products Industry. Application deadline: March 31st, 2018. Scholarship Application

National Organization of Professional Hispanic NRCS Employees (NOPHNRCSE) Scholarship
The National Organization of Professional Hispanic NRCS Employees (NOPHNRCSE) will award three $1,000.00 academic scholarships to qualified students that are pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, or Natural Resources Conservation related field of study. Botany Research Scholarship Program

The Northern California Botanists is now accepting applications for the Botany Research Scholarship Program for the 2018 - 2019 academic year. See the application packet for more details on application guidelines and requirements. Application deadline: March 16th, 2018. Scholarship Application

Humboldt County Farm Bureau Scholarships
The Humboldt County Farm Bureau Scholarships provides scholarships to students who graduated from from Humboldt County High Schools or the surrounding area. The variety of scholarships are aimed at students who intend to pursue agriculture, forestry and natural resource sciences. Application deadline: April 1st, 2018. Scholarship Application

American Conifer Society Scholarship
The American Conifer Society is offering a $2,500 scholarship to undergraduate students with an interest in horticulture, specifically the study, development, and preservation of conifers. Application deadline: June 1st, 2018. Scholarship Application

Paul J. Zinke Memorial Scholarship
The Paul J. Zinke Memorial Scholarship was established to encourage and reward excellence in university-level undergraduate study in forest soils, rangeland soils, or wildland soils in California. Applicants must be pursuing the study of forest, rangeland, or wildland soils, or a related ecosystem science degree with a soils emphasis. Application deadline: June 1st, 2018. Ben Meadows Natural Resource Scholarship
The Ben Meadows Natural Resource Scholarships are administered through the Society of American Foresters (SAF). Applicants must be enrolled in an SAF-accredited as a junior or senior enrolled in a natural resource program working toward a bachelor of arts or science degree. Application deadline: June 30th, 2018.. Scholarship Application

John Mabry Forestry Scholarship
The Railway Tie Association is offering two $2,000.00 John Mabry Forestry Scholarships to juniors and seniors enrolled in an accredited Forestry program for the full school year. Application deadline: June 30th, 2018. Scholarship Application

Western Chapter-International Erosion Control Association Scholarship
The Western Chapter-International Erosion Control Association Scholarship is for students enrolled in an erosion and sediment control-related degree program (engineering, hydrology, soils, geology, forestry, environmental studies, range management, watershed, ecology, natural resources planning, etc.). The scholarship is available to continuing junior, senior, or graduate school level students with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the erosion and sediment control profession, and who are a citizen of the United States (not Permanent Resident).
