Laura Levy

Sedimentology, Quaternary climate change

Education:
  • PhD, Earth Sciences, Dartmouth, 2014
  • MS, Geology, Northern Arizona University, 2002
  • BA, Geology, Mount Holyoke College, 1998
Professional Experience:
  • Assistant Professor, Humboldt State University, 2017-present
  • Postdoctoral Researcher, Aarhus University, 2014-2017
  • Soundscape Program, Grand Canyon National Park, 2006- 2009
  • Rocky Mountain Research Station, 2003-2005
Personal and Research Interests:

My research focuses on tracking glacier fluctuations since the end of the last ice age (~11,600 years ago) to understand how glaciers and ice sheets have responded to natural climate variability. I use 10Be dating of glacial deposits (e.g. moraines) in conjunction with lake sediment cores from lakes downvalley from glaciers. In addition to conducting research in Greenland, I plan to start research projects in the nearby mountains of northern California. If you are interested in reading more about my research, you can visit my personal website: laurablevy.me.

Courses Taught:

GEOL 109 - General Geology

GEOL 210 - Earth Systems History

GEOL 332 - Sedimentary Geology

GEOL 435 - Advanced Field Methods
