Mission Statement

Student Health & Counseling (SHC) services support the academic mission of the university by assisting students to strive toward an optimum level of personal health and wellness. The medical team of SHC provides high quality, fully accredited for ambulatory care, professional health service for acute injury and illness, as well as limited routine preventive care, in a welcoming, confidential, and culturally appropriate environment.

Patient Rights & Responsibilities

As a patient at the Student Health Center,

You have the right to:

  • respectful and courteous care
  • privacy and confidentiality of treatment and medical records
  • a clear and understandable explanation of your health problem and associated treatment
  • full information about the effectiveness of treatment, possible risks, side effects or alternative methods of treatment
  • request chaperones for Sensitive Exams & Procedures
  • know who is treating you, and have a choice of health care provider
  • ask for a second medical opinion before making any decision and, if you decide not to be treated, to be made aware of the medical consequences of refusal
  • review or request photocopies of your medical records, although the original record remains the property of the Health Center
  • prompt assistance in resolving complaints or grievances regarding your treatment

You have certain responsibilities to:

  • present accurate identifying information
  • present details of your illness or complaint in a direct and straightforward manner
  • keep your appointments on time
  • call to cancel an appointment as soon as possible so that other patients might utilize that time
  • pay for services or medications in a timely manner or, if you are unable to pay, to make arrangements with the front office
  • comply with the treatment plan developed with your health care provider
  • ask for clarification whenever you don't understand information or instructions
  • treat staff and other patients with courtesy and respect
