The "J" dining room serves as the primary dining facility for Humboldt State's resident hall population.
Built in 1968, The "J" has the capacity to seat over 350 diners within the glass-walled dining room that offers views to the West of Arcata Bay and the Pacific Ocean and to the East views of Jolly Giant Creek Canyon. A remodeling of the facility in 1997 went hand in hand with an earthquake retrofit of the Jolly Giant Commons. During the remodel, the dining room received a much needed cosmetic facelift as well as changes in the design of the serving area and the establishment of a permanent Espresso Bar. In 2001, the Espresso area was modified to create a demonstration cooking facility now known as the "J Grill."
