Announcing Mathematics Tutoring Program | Fall 2012
The Humboldt Science and Mathematics Center welcomes applicants to a tutor training program for
undergraduate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics) majors with interest in the teaching
and learning of mathematics. The program is especially
interested in providing an early experience for those
STEM majors who want to explore teaching as a profession.
The primary mission of Northcoast Mathematics and Science Initiative (NMSI) is to enhance the mathematics and science teaching professions through recruitment and training of individuals with strong mathematics and science backgrounds and enthusiastic dispositions entering the teaching profession. Related activities also include professional development opportunities for practicing teachers.
NMSI was founded in 2004 with a grant from the California Post-Secondary Education Commission together with support from regional schools and Humboldt State University. More recently, ongoing funding comes from the California State University’s Mathematics and Science Teacher Initiative.
Dr. Amiliano Ayala
NMSI is a collaboration between the Humboldt Science and Mathematics Center and the College of Professional Studies.
