Dear Humboldt: Alumni Reunions

Alumni Relations

Alumna Cathy Flores writes in about her classmates from Maple Hall who have been reuniting for 25 years!

Our group all attended Humboldt State University from approx 1970 to 1975, give or take. We lived in Maple Hall. It was so much fun; we went camping almost every weekend, rain or shine and the cafeteria would take down our meal ticket numbers and pack food for us, even giving us frying pans to use.

We magically bonded like a family. We have been a “close” family ever since, with many marrying one another. We do a campout reunion every year for 25 years, this year being the silver anniversary. In honor we have made the T-shirt banner/quilt, it contains T-shirts mostly designed by one of our group.

Additionally, the ladies get together for two retreats a year and the guys do a fishing trip. Now, the campout reunion is dedicated in memory of a member we sadly lost. Our group now has not only us but grown adult children and now their children, (grandkids!) as well.

In October, we are coming to the Humboldt homecoming. I reserved 20 rooms in a hotel, we plan to eat one night at the Plaza Grill, one night at the Samoa Cookhouse (old haunt) and see the game, tailgate if possible!.

Help HSU Become an Outdoor National Champion

Outdoor Nation Challenge

The Outdoor Nation Campus Challenge is about campus communities joining forces with students to get people outside and active. Humboldt State will be one of 90 colleges and universities across the United States participating in the 2016 Challenge, which runs September 4 through October 15.

The school to log the most outdoor activity will be hailed “National Outdoor Champion” and receive a gear bank worth $3,000 from North Face.

HSU, located in some of the most pristine natural environments anywhere, is eager to get students, parents, and alumni to take part. The competition is open to everyone and anyone, and you can participate from anywhere.

All participants will be entered into a pool for daily and weekly prizes from REI, North Face, Chaco, Osprey, and more.

All you need to participate is to download the Outdoor Nation app (available for iPhone or Android) or register on the website. When you head outdoors, open the app and follow the instructions.
