On behalf of Humboldt State University (HSU), the Center for International Programs would like to welcome students from all over the world.  Some of our international students are here seeking their bachelors, masters, or are participating in many of the exciting programs we have to offer! In addition, HSU also welcomes students on exchange from our partner programs and exchange partners.

If a student identifies themselves as an international student, please join us in welcoming them to our friendly, safe, and beautiful community!

To see why our international students choose HSU as their “home away from home”, please browse our e-Brochure. You can also view the latest updates, pictures, and connect with us by following us on Facebook!

Programs Offered by HSU

International English Language Institute (IELI)
As an intensive language program, the International English Language Institute (IELI) helps non-native English learners develop the knowledge and language skills necessary to achieve their academic goals.  IELI serves as a bridge, helping each student make the transition from an English language learner to a successful student at an American university.  IELI offers instruction in English for Academic Purposes in all core skill areas: grammar, writing, reading, listening and speaking.  In addition, students take courses focusing on particular skill areas and a variety of topics designed to help them become familiar with American culture and the higher education system.

International English Language Institute (IELI) Bridge Program

Advanced ESL students can participate in the IELI Bridge Program.  Students in the Bridge Program take one college course while enrolled in the IELI program. Participation in the IELI Bridge program allows students to gain experience navigating a university level academic class, strengthen their English, learn study skills, and much more before they become full-time university students.

HSU Study California
Students seeking to gain the “American College Experience” can participate in the HSU Study California program. Non-degree seeking students from around the world can choose to study at HSU for one semester or one year without going through the formal admissions process. Students are enrolled through Open University through the College of eLearning and Extended Education.

Bilateral Exchange
International students currently studying at a college or university that has an approved bilateral exchange agreement with Humboldt State University (HSU) and who are interested in attending HSU can participate in the Bilateral Exchange Program (BEP). HSU students can enjoy a year or semester at these partner institutions while only paying HSU fees.

Semester at Humboldt
If there is not an equal number of students participating in exchange, the students from out of balance exchange partners can apply to the Semester at Humboldt program. Students are enrolled through Open University through the College of eLearning and Extended Education.
