Level 6 for Advanced Students

Level 6 is required to meet English proficiency for IELI students who are conditionally admitted to graduate studies at Humboldt State University.

Level 6 is an optional level for all students who have completed Level 5 at IELI. This level is a way for advanced IELI students to get experience in a university-level academic class before they become full-time university students. Students can apply up to 24 undergraduate credits or 9-12 graduate level credits earned in Level 6 to their degree.

Level 6 students attend 16 hours a week of ESL instruction and attend 1 HSU course (up to 4 semester credits). Below is an example of a Level 6 student’s weekly schedule.

Level 6 Requirements

Level 6 students must meet the following requirements at all times.

  • Attend a special orientation. This takes place during the week before classes begin. Therefore, you must be on campus before the first day of classes.
  • Continue to attend the IELI courses regularly. Attendance policies still apply to Level 6 students.
  • Maintain a B average in IELI classes.
  • Make satisfactory progress in HSU classes (ie: have at least a grade of C or Credit in each class).
  • Maintain full-time student status at all times.

If a student is not attending their university classes or their IELI classes or has withdrawn from a university course without first meeting with their adviser, they will be out of status and may be dismissed from the IELI program. No refunds are given for students who are dismissed.
