Google has ended its practice of scanning its users' Apps for Education accounts for advertising purposes after being sued by students and other Gmail users last year, the company announced Wednesday. There's more information on Google's enterprise blog at:
Google provides an application called Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook to enable you to use Outlook to access your Google email, contact lists, and calendar.
Accessibility and Google Apps became an issue recently when complaints of discrimination were filed against New York University and Northwestern University. The complaints charged that the schools’ Google Apps implementations were not fully compatible with text-to-speech conversion technology, thus discriminating against students who are blind.
Mac Mail may be used as a standalone email client for GMail. If you've never launched and configured Mac Mail, follow the steps below to do that. You'll also need to enable and configure the Advanced IMAP Controls Lab in GMail, or you'll get multiple copies of mail in your All Mail folder.
Step 1: Launch Mac Mail
If you're using an IMAP client like Mac Mail to manage your email, you must also install Google's Advanced IMAP Controls Lab. It enables you to choose which GMail labels show up in your mail client and prevents multiple copies of the same email from being downloaded.
