Security :: Breaches of Information Security

Data security breaches are happening more and more often, and even the largest organizations are not immune. Many well-known banks, manufacturing companies, government departments, universities, and other organizations have experienced major breaches in data protection. It's important to remember that data breaches aren't just caused by sophisticated hackers; they're also caused all-too-frequently by a lack of attention or care being paid to the information entrusted to us - in fact, the biggest threat to data security is people's behavior.

Security :: Data Protection Best Practices

Everyone at Humboldt State University is required to follow certain basic guidelines to support the protection of confidential information:

Security :: Keep Your System Current

Because today's security threats are heavily focused on exploiting vulnerabilities in common operating systems and applications, one of the most important ways to keep your information safe is to ensure your OS, browser, and other widely-used applications such as Adobe's Acrobat Reader are kept up to date (as well as your antivirus, of course!).

Note that you will need to have the latest OS patches installed for Windows and Macintosh systems, as well as up-to-date antivirus, in order to connect to the HSU wireless network.
