Agenda Topic and Meeting Summary 

1. Dashboard Demonstrations


  • Melissa Koval demonstrated Faculty and Employee dashboards. Dashboard features include a semester snapshot, historical comparisons, temporary/tenure‐track views, and drillable data.
  • The Faculty dashboard displays Faculty, Librarian and Counselor data. Coach data will be added. The Employee dashboard displays data for all non‐Student Employees. A Student Employee dashboard will be created separately.


  • Vikash Lakhani demonstrated the Admissions Profile and Historical Enrollment Profile dashboards, publically available through the Institutional Research web page at: http://www.humboldt.edu/irp/EMWG.html
  • These dashboards display All‐University, College, and Department admissions data based on selected key metrics.
  • Enrollment dashboard updates and improvements are ongoing.

2. LAO Performance Metrics

  • The group discussed the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) performance metrics and potential dashboard development based on these metrics. Though the LAO is not a direct audience for HSU, its published performance metrics serve as useful benchmarks for the University.
  • In the process of meeting HSU’s institutional needs, much work toward publishing key performance indicators (KPIs) has already been accomplished. Continuing work will include making key measures more prominent and developing a ‘one‐stop’ site for KPIs, with links to more in‐depth data and metrics.

3. Fall 2014 Strategic Planning

  • The group discussed the DWLT’s role and potential milestones in support of the campus‐wide effort toward a Strategic Plan.
  • DWLT Goals for the coming year may include providing necessary data for the strategic planning process, identifying measurable goals, and continuing to improve the data request process.

4. Data Cookbook

  • ITS Administrative Support will identify a suitable time to schedule the Data Cookbook kick‐off meeting.

5. Next Meetings:

Data Cookbook kickoff to be scheduled in late‐August/early‐September.

Next regular DWLT meeting date TBD.

Potential agenda items for the next meeting include:

  • Discuss retiring obsolete dashboards.
  • Data Warehouse task list & priorities.
  • Continue discussion of the DWLT’s role in the Strategic Plan
