This Spring's transition to Moodle  v2.3 is the culmination of a yearlong effort by a large number of ITS staff members. Every individual on the team stepped up and met the challenges, which were significant, and as a result, all the project goals were met on schedule.
Now that the roll-out of the new version is complete, the second phase of the project can begin.
ITS has offered 24 workshops since the January roll-out, and has increased service hours for phone and walk-in support for both faculty and students. To keep the momentum going,additional training opportunities and workshops will continue to be offered to help everyone to unlock the full potential of Moodle 2.3. To broaden the accessibility of these additional opportunities, online sessions using Collaborate and TeamViewer are now available for out-of-area lecture staff and faculty who are unable to come to campus.
The new Moodle provides functionality that was either not practical to use or not available at all in the older version of the software, along with a larger range of plugins ("blocks") for students and faculty to evaulate for potential inclusion in courses. There are also a number of cloud-based options to consider. ITS is working with the Instructional Designers for eLearning and Extended Education to prioritize potential add-ons and welcome input from faculty in this process. The campus community as a whole is also encouraged to participate in the testing of new functionality in the special version of Moodle we maintain for offline experimentation.
Also under evaluation are new and different ways of communicating information about Moodle to the campus community, so if you have any ideas on this front, the Moodle team would like to har from you. By combining new and existing methods of communication and offering a wide range of workshops and support opportunities, the campus community will have many opportunities to learn more of what Moodle has to offer.
