The latest addition to our SCCM toolkit is Microsoft's System Center Endpoint Protection, which is replacing the Sophos Antivirus protection we've been using for the past several years. The Microsoft product, formerly known as Forefront, integrates directly with SCCM, so you should experience better system performance without any loss of security.
For those of you taking advantage of the free Sophos Antivirus license on your personal computing devices, there's no need to make any immediate changes - your Sophos license is valid until April 2014. At that time, you can switch to any of the free (or commercial) antivirus products approved by HSU as a precondition for connecting to the campus wired and wireless networks.
System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) enables ITS to provide better service in computer security, software installation, patch management, and inventory reports. Using these tools, we can not only respond more quickly to requests for assistance and software installation, but also provide a way for more focused preventive maintenance, because SCCM can report such things as hard drives running out of space and previously-unknown software application vulnerabilities.
