Antivirus (AV) software protects computers and mobile devices from being infected by viruses, spyware, worms, Trojans, and a long list of other malware that can damage data or steal your identity. In order to protect data on every other computer connected to the Humboldt State University networks, you must have an up-to-date virus protection product installed on your personal computer before you are permitted to connect to the campus wired and wireless networks. Note that simply installing the software is not enough; it must be kept up-to-date either manually or using the update mechanism incorporated into the software. Note: All HSU-owned computers are installed and kept up to date with either Microsoft Endpoint Security (Windows) or Sophos (Macintosh).
The following antivirus software products are free and recommended for use with the HSU wireless networks on personally-owned devices.
The following products meet the minimum standards to connect to HSU wired and wireless networks and are compatible with our connection software. Some products are free, while others may have a free trial period before a license payment is required (generally, free trial versions stop updating themselves after the end of the trial period, so they're not safe to continue to use beyond that time. Free products in particular may make use of your personal information and other information gathered from your computer, so you may wish to check this in the license agreement. If you have any problems with these products, we suggest you install the Microsoft or Sophos products listed above or contact the Technology Help Desk for direct assistance:
