Network Folders :: Your Account and Quota

The amount of space (or quota) you have in your HSU Network Folder is determined by your role at HSU. For students, your quota applies to your U: drive only; faculty quotas represent a combination of T: and U: drives. Your individual quota is the largest number that applies to your role in the table below.

Note that the GSP 101 and GSP roles only apply when you are currently enrolled in those classes and, unless otherwise noted, your quota will change to the appropriate alternate level when you are no longer enrolled in those classes.

To check your quota:

You can log into Account Center, click on Account Tools, and select Network Folders Quota and Usage at any time when you are on or off campus.

When you're on campus, you can also check your usage as follows:

  • Windows Users - In My Computer, the Total Size (quota) and Free Space numbers are displayed next to your HSU Network Folder (normally the U: drive).
  • Macintosh OS X - Open your HSU Network Folder in Finder. At the bottom of the window, you will see your free space listed as "xxx MB available." You can also see Capacity (quota) and Available space by doing a Get Info from the file menu on the Network Folder.

If you run out of space

When you've used 90% or more of your allocated storage space, you will receive an email letting you know that you have nearly reached your quota. Remember that your quota may have been reduced because of a change in enrollment status or an expiration of an temporary quota increase.

You can manually clear additional space on your drive by erasing files currently in the trash/recycle bin. If necessary, you may also request a temporary increase in quota. Requests for up to 50 MB over your default quota will be automatically granted and processed overnight, while larger requests are evaluated individually. You will be notified by email when a decision is made.

To request an increase, log into Account Center, click on Account Tools, and select Current Quota and Usage.

When you leave HSU

Your data will be available as long as you have an active affiliation with the University. When you leave or become an inactive user for any reason, you will no longer be able to access the files stored in your HSU Network Folders. You will be alerted before the change of status occurs. It is YOUR responsibility to back up the files in your HSU Network Folder PRIOR to losing access.

Staff Currently employed by the University. Exited from all positions and not currently employed by the University.
Faculty Currently teaching or appointed to a permanent position. Not currently employed by the University.
