Our Peer Writing Consultants
This is my third year at Humboldt State and am hoping to graduate in 2018. I’m a Biology major with an emphasis in Microbiology. I was born and raised in Long Beach, California. I chose to become a Peer Writing Consultant because I thought it’d be a cool experience getting to interact with my peers and being able to offer techniques to help them get through whatever obstacle they’re facing in writing. Because of the Writing Studio, I’ve been able to learn new things through my peers and their writing, which makes my job much more worthwhile.
I'm a junior in the Environmental Resource Engineering undergraduate program. After I graduate, I hope to join the Peace Corps and volunteer with a focus on the environment or agriculture. I believe that working with others brings new perspectives to old thoughts, and I'm always interested in learning about new things. Since I can relate to how overwhelming education can be, I enjoy helping others through the learning process and making it more approachable.
I'm a senior at HSU majoring in English Literary Studies and minoring in Writing. I'm from the City of Orange, California and transferred up to Humboldt last fall. Outside of academia I love to read and write poetry as well as watch film and write screenplays. I also love staying active and exploring the outdoors, going to concerts, and cooking eccentric things! After graduation I plan on teaching English abroad before moving back to southern California to pursue an education in film and screenwriting. I decided to become a Peer Writing Consultant because I think that having a handle on the written word empowers you in many areas of life, and I love the idea of being able to empower other students by helping them with their writing.
I'm a Junior in Environmental Studies from the tiny town of Foresthill, California, in the Sierra Mountains. I'm a vegetarian, I've got a ridiculous obsession with mermaids, and my favorite pastimes are reading, writing letters, scrapbooking, anything paper-craft, and hiking. I decided to become a Peer Writing Consultant in order to help my peers see that they are much more capable writers than they might think or have been told in the past.
I am currently a senior in the English undergraduate program and I’m set to graduate in Fall 2016. I am originally from Hacienda Heights and transferred to Humboldt in 2014. My time at Humboldt has taught me how to be self-motivated and self-sufficient. Since starting the undergrad program here, I’ve had the chance to meet and work with great people, as well as discover other points of views and ways of thinking. After I graduate from HSU, I hope to be accepted to the sexuality studies program at SFSU. My hobbies include reading, writing, expanding my library, watching unhealthy amounts of TV, developing my obsession with K-pop, and evolving all my Pokémon. Being a Writing Studio consultant seemed like a no-brainer to me because not only do I get to apply the things that I know and have learned practically, but I also get to interact with different people from all over the university.
I’m an Idaho native, and a junior film student at Humboldt. After a few years away I returned to school to chase my dreams of being a director, and to quench my thirst for knowledge. When I’m not playing the banjo or marathoning cartoons I love to get to know the students of HSU through the passionate discussions that take place in the Writing Studio.
I am an English: Writing Practices major here at HSU. I plan to graduate in spring 2018. I’m from Crescent City, which is only a 90-minute drive north of here. I love cooking for people, writing, reading, and watching unhealthy amounts of Netflix. I wanted to be a Peer Writing Consultant because I love working with people. I’ve been in several other similar positions and working with my peers on writing is one of my absolute favorite things. I someday hope to be a composition and creative writing professor.
I'm a senior in the English department, specifically the Writing Practices pathway. I grew up in the East Bay, and attended Sonoma State University for two years before transferring up here. While at Sonoma State I was a part of both the English department and the Liberal Studies department, which allowed me to encounter a wide array of texts. After I graduate, plan to obtain an MFA in Creative Writing. The act of writing helps me to articulate my thoughts not only to other people, but also to myself. This is something I hope to help students do at the Writing Studio. In my free time I enjoy hiking, photography, and, of course, writing.
I earned my BA in English: Writing Practices at HSU, and am now working towards a Master's in Composition Studies and Pedagogy. I gravitate most to books and movies that fall into the magical realism and supernatural horror genres: the more Lovecraftian, the better. Iron Maiden is my favorite flavor of music because many of their songs are derived from major literary works. Analyzing figurative language in heavy metal songs is one of my favorite hobbies. Being in the position to help writers in all aspects of the writing process is both therapeutic and an endeavor I take extremely seriously.
