Dan Flockhart received his multiple subject teaching credential from California State University, East Bay in 1988. He taught mathematics in grades 5 through 8 for eleven years at St. Matthew's Episcopal Day School in San Mateo, California. He has also taught fourth grade for one year, as well as general studies classes at College of the Redwoods and a math fieldwork course at Humboldt State University.

Mr. Flockhart received a Master of Arts degree in Education from Humboldt State University in 2005; the title of his thesis was "Teacher Perceptions of the Effects of Fantasy Football in the Teaching of Mathematics."
