Your Guide to Commencement
Commencement is a special time for you and your graduate. After years of hard work, your student will accept their diploma before friends and family in Redwood Bowl on Saturday, May 16. Here are some tips for making the most of this memorable day.
Help Your Graduate Stay on Track
Encourage your student to attend Grad Fair—held April 8 and 9 in the HSU Bookstore—to learn more about commencement. They can also order their graduation cap and gown, diploma frame, and class ring early to ease the stress before graduation day.

Make sure your student registers for graduation by April 25 to ensure their name is included in the program. Registering is easy at humboldt.edu/gradreg.
Prepare
Book your accommodations now, since rooms fill quickly. The same goes for dinner reservations—book them at least a month in advance. For lodging, restaurants and activities, visit humboldt.edu/commencement/lodging-restaurants.
The Day Of
Thousands of people attend graduation every year, so be sure to arrive early on May 16 to ensure a parking spot. Find your student’s ceremony and reception time based on their college (Professional Studies, Arts & Humanities or Natural Resources & Sciences), by visiting the commencement website. Since graduation is held in Redwood Bowl rain or shine, make sure to dress appropriately. And don’t forget: we’ll have professional photographers on-hand taking pictures of graduates as they receive their diploma. Feel free to take photos, but be mindful of other guests.
