Dear University Community,
I invite you to be a part of a campus vigil this Friday for the victims of the Orlando shooting.
The vigil, which is being organized by a group of students and staff, will be at 4 p.m., Friday, June 17 on the UC Quad. We will have an opportunity to write messages and to speak about the incident, and we will be joined by alumni and by others from surrounding communities.
This week has been sad and shocking. We have been in mourning, and each day we learn more heartbreaking details. As individuals, as a university, and as a nation, we have struggled to understand the incident and to deal with the range of emotions it has evoked.
Our thoughts and our love go out to all the victims, as well as to their families, friends, and others who are affected.
During this time, it is important to offer our care and comfort for one another. I urge you to reach out to and support everyone who is part of our Humboldt LGBTQ community and those who are part of our Muslim community. This is a time to demonstrate once again that our University respects and embraces diversity in all forms.
Students who need additional support during this time are encouraged to contact the Office of the Dean of Students (Siemens Hall 211) at 707.826.3504. Staff or faculty seeking additional support may utilize the Employee Assistance Program at 707.443.7358.
For more information about Friday’s vigil, please contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 707.826.3504.
