I am thrilled to have been invited to serve Humboldt State University as the next president. I am grateful for the confidence the California State University's Board of Trustees and Chancellor have shown in offering me this wonderful opportunity - and for the search advisory committee’s role in making this possible.
My husband, Dr. Dallas D. Rhodes, and I lived in California (albeit the southern part of the state) for nearly two decades, and we have visited the North Coast multiple times - to visit friends in Arcata, see the National Park, and participate in field trips around the area. Dallas's research has focused on the San Andreas Fault and the climate change record in California's Carrizo Plain, and he is excited about being closer to his field area.
Our dog, Tango, is going to love the Redwood Coast. Our first Doberman came from a rescue in Southern California and moved to Georgia with us. We love the symmetry in knowing that Tango, who is a Georgia girl, will be moving to Northern California.
When we were on the Humboldt State campus last weekend, we were reminded again of the spectacular scenery and location. We look forward to returning next week and meeting faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members in person.
I am greatly enjoying the information and greetings submitted through the online form and the social media posts tagged #WelcomeHSUPres. These perspectives will help me learn about the campus as quickly as possible.
I very much look forward to our working together, building on Humboldt State's strong foundations, supporting student success, and fulfilling the University's mission.
See you soon!
